What do you really want? And what if you’re not even sure how to answer that question?
In this episode, I’m talking with money manifestation coach Jamie Berman about what manifestation actually means and how it can help us create more of what we want from abundance in our businesses and lives to becoming a more organized version of ourselves.
Jamie shares how she went from being terrified of being seen and speaking in front of people to building a successful coaching business, and why learning to trust herself played such a big role in that transformation. We also talk about her decision to walk away from a successful niche when it no longer felt like the work she wanted to do.
We get into manifestation from a faith perspective, including Jamie’s belief that it can be about partnering with God rather than trying to control everything ourselves. She explains why getting clear on what you want matters, how visualization and vision boards can help, and why taking action and surrendering the outcome can exist together.
We also talk about what happens when you’re genuinely content with your life and don’t know what you want next. Jamie shares some really good questions for uncovering desires that have nothing to do with getting a bigger house, a nicer car, or more stuff.
And, of course, I ask her how all of this applies to getting organized. If you’ve spent years believing, “I’m just not an organized person,” what would happen if you started seeing yourself as someone who could become organized and began practicing being her?
In this episode, we talk about:
- What manifestation actually means and how Jamie approaches it through faith
- Getting clear on what you really want
- Being content with your life while still allowing yourself to desire more
- Using vision boards, visualization, journaling, and other practices
- How your beliefs and identity influence what you create
- Becoming the person you want to be before you fully believe you’re her
- Taking action without needing to know exactly how everything will happen
- Trusting yourself when you feel called to make a change
- Surrendering the outcome instead of trying to control it
If you’ve been thinking about what you want in this next season or wondering whether you’re even allowed to want something more when your life is already good, I think you’ll love this conversation.

Manifesting an Organized Life, Abundance & What You Really Want
What do you really want?
It sounds like an easy question, but it can be surprisingly difficult to answer. Maybe you’re pretty content with your life. You’re grateful for what you have, you don’t necessarily want a bigger house or a nicer car, and you certainly don’t need more stuff. So when someone asks what you want next, you might genuinely think, “I don’t know.”
That’s part of what made my conversation with money manifestation coach Jamie Berman so interesting. We talked about abundance, desires, faith, identity, and what manifestation actually means. As Jamie explained how she helps people create what they want, I kept seeing connections to organizing.
Because manifesting an organized life isn’t about wishing for a clutter-free house and hoping you wake up to one tomorrow. Instead, it starts with getting clear on what you want, believing you can become the person who creates it, and then practicing being that person.
What Does Manifestation Actually Mean?
If the word manifestation makes you hesitate, you’re not alone. Depending on what you’ve heard about it, you may picture vision boards, positive thinking, or the idea that you can simply think something into existence.
As a Christian, I especially wanted to ask Jamie how she thinks about manifestation in relation to God and faith. Jamie describes it as partnering with God rather than removing Him from the process. She believes our desires and gifts can point us toward what we’re here to do, while our thoughts, fears, and beliefs sometimes keep us from moving toward it.
For Jamie, the process includes getting clear on the desire, seeing it as possible, taking action, and eventually surrendering the outcome. That last part stood out to me because surrender feels very different from trying to control everything.
You can decide what you want and move toward it without knowing exactly how every detail will work out.
Manifesting an Organized Life Starts With a Destination
One of the tools Jamie uses is visualization. She encourages people to picture what they want as though it’s already part of their lives.
Of course, as soon as she started explaining this, my organizing brain kicked in. If you want an organized home, what does that actually look like for you? Can you picture yourself walking into your kitchen at the end of the day and putting things away? Can you imagine opening a closet and easily finding what you need? How would it feel to invite someone over without immediately worrying about the piles on the counter?
Jamie compared this process to putting a destination into a GPS, which made me laugh because I use that exact analogy when I teach organizing. You have to know where you’re going before you can intentionally move toward it.
That’s why I don’t think getting organized begins with buying bins or even deciding what to get rid of. First, you need some idea of the life and home you’re trying to create. Once you know the destination, the individual decisions become easier to make.
The Beliefs You’re Holding Matter
Another connection between manifestation and organization is identity.
Maybe you want an organized home, but somewhere underneath that desire you’re still thinking, “I’m just not an organized person.” You may have said it so many times that it no longer sounds like a thought. Instead, it sounds like a fact.
Jamie used a phrase during our conversation that I loved. She talked about noticing the thoughts we are holding.
Rather than saying, “I’m not organized,” you can notice, “I’m holding the belief that I’m not organized.” That subtle change creates some space between you and the thought. Now you can see it as something you’ve been thinking rather than an absolute description of who you are.
Perhaps you’ve held that belief for 25 years. Maybe you grew up in a disorganized home, or someone labeled you messy when you were young. You may even have plenty of evidence from your past to support the belief. However, none of that means you have to keep carrying it into your future.
You Still Have to Practice Being Her
This is where I appreciated Jamie’s explanation of manifestation because she wasn’t suggesting that you visualize something and then sit around waiting for it to appear.
You still have to take action.
If you want to become organized, you have to practice the skills of an organized person. For example, you might set a timer and declutter for 15 minutes, decide where something belongs instead of putting it back in the pile, or take one minute at the end of the day to reset a space.
None of those actions has to be dramatic. However, every time you practice one of those skills, you create evidence that supports a different identity.
Instead of waiting until your entire house is organized before you allow yourself to say, “I’m organized,” you begin becoming that person through the way you show up today. That’s one reason I believe so strongly that organized is a skill, not a personality type. You don’t have to be born with it. You can learn it, practice it, and get better at creating order when and where you need it.
What If You Don’t Know What You Want?
Our conversation took an interesting turn when I told Jamie that sometimes I have trouble deciding what I want because I’m genuinely content with my life.
For example, I can look at a beautiful new car and think it would be fun to have one. Almost immediately, though, my brain starts calculating how much it costs and whether I’d really want to spend that much money on a car. Before long, I’ve talked myself out of even wanting it.
Jamie pointed out that contentment is a wonderful thing. We don’t need to create dissatisfaction with our lives just so we can come up with bigger goals. At the same time, contentment doesn’t mean there’s nothing left for us to experience, create, contribute, or become.
Instead of asking yourself what you should want next, Jamie suggested asking different questions. What would be fun? What do you feel called to create? How would you like to feel? What would you love to experience? What do you definitely not want anymore?
That last question can be surprisingly helpful. Sometimes identifying what you no longer want makes it much easier to see what you do want.
Abundance Doesn’t Have to Mean More Stuff
When we hear words like abundance or manifestation, it’s easy to picture material things: more money, a bigger house, an expensive vacation, or a new car. Those things might be part of someone’s desires, but abundance doesn’t have to mean accumulating more.
Maybe you want deeper relationships. You might want to write the book that’s been on your heart, volunteer for something that matters to you, travel with your husband, or spend more time with your grandchildren. Perhaps you want a peaceful home where people feel welcome or a schedule with enough margin to enjoy the life you’ve created.
You may even want to become someone who trusts herself more.
Jamie suggested imagining yourself much farther into the future and asking what gifts you want to give that version of yourself. I loved that question because it takes the pressure off coming up with an impressive goal. Instead, you can focus on the life you actually want to live.
Find a Practice That Works for You
There isn’t one perfect manifestation practice, and Jamie doesn’t believe everyone needs to follow the same routine. She encourages people to try different practices and notice what helps them connect with their desires, beliefs, and intuition.
For some people, that might be a vision board. Others may connect through prayer, meditation, journaling, visualization, reading, or walking. Jamie even talked about taking “belief walks,” where she would walk while practicing what it felt like to believe something new about herself.
Her own practices change depending on the season she’s in. Right now, she uses morning pages—three pages of freeform writing that allow her to unload what’s on her mind and eventually get to some of the deeper thoughts underneath it.
I love the freedom in that approach because you don’t have to find the perfect morning routine and then do it for the rest of your life. You can pay attention to what you need in this season and choose a practice that supports you now.
What Do You Really Want in This Season?
Maybe the question isn’t, “What should I want next?” A better question might simply be, “What do I want?”
Consider what would make the life you already appreciate even more meaningful. Forget what everyone else wants or what you think you should want at your age, in your business, or during this stage of your life. Your answer gets to be yours.
If one of those desires is a more organized home or life, start by picturing what that means to you. Then notice the beliefs you’re holding about whether you can actually have it. From there, choose one small way to practice being that person today.
You don’t have to know exactly how you’ll get all the way there. You simply need a destination and a willingness to take the next step.
