I tried doing a flip off the diving board in 1994 at a public swimming pool and landed flat on my back. Ouch. It hurt so much. I was determined NOT to be a quitter so went right back in line and tried it again. I landed flat on my back again. Ugh. That was the last flip I’ve ever done.
Failure is necessary and scary.
Failure can be scary. Unknown. Embarrassing. Even painful in my case.
Sometimes we don’t even try because we’re scared we’ll fail.
Or, we muster up all our courage and try. When we fail once, we never try again.
Failing, being uncomfortable is…well, uncomfortable.
We don’t want to fail.
But, we have to get good at failing if we want to find success.
If we try and fail and feel uncomfortable a LOT, we get better at feeling uncomfortable.
We’re not scared of it anymore. We realize nothing terrible happens when we fail, get embarrassed, or even experience pain. It’s a vibration in our body. A feeling. An experience inside our body that we don’t like.
Nothing terrible will happen unless, of course, we beat ourselves up over it.
Decide to get good at failing.
What if we just decided we are going to get good at feeling uncomfortable. At failing. And we’re not going to make it mean anything. Except maybe that we are amazing for being willing.
We try and keep trying and keep failing and keep feeling uncomfortable…until we succeed.
If you want to get organized, and you’ve failed, and given up, more than likely you are feeling uncomfortable that you are still disorganized.
Uncomfortable that your home isn’t the way you want it.
Uncomfortable that you can’t find things, have piles, can’t do other things because you’re always thinking you “should” or “need to” get organized.
So, either way you are uncomfortable.
Why not be uncomfortable trying and failing a lot until you succeed?
RATHER than not trying and feeling uncomfortable because you haven’t done it.
