We don’t have to eat cake when someone offers us a piece of cake. Right?

In the same way, we don’t have to listen and believe and hold onto the thoughts our brain offers us.

Thoughts like:

  • we might need it
  • I’m messy
  • this item is valuable, I spent a lot of money
  • it’s all too much
  • we don’t have time to organize
  • I’m sentimentally attached to things
  • I can’t make decisions
  • and on and on.

We think IF we are thinking something it must be true. We don’t even question the thought. What if the opposite is true? What if we have a thought error looping continuously and we are believing a lie?

We go on living our life taking actions from the feelings these thoughts create in us. Spinning in overwhelm. Doubting ourselves. Stuck in confusion. Failing ahead of time.

Of course this happens. It all makes sense when we understand our brain.

Our Brain’s Job

Our brain’s job is to search for danger, keep us safe and comfortable and help us exert the least amount of energy possible. As it performs this function, it offers us the same thoughts over and over…our brain is VERY efficient. It’s the default programing that happens without us thinking about it.

This programming comes from our childhood, our friend circle, our faith, the things we were labeled with all our life (theย messy one), social media, our people-pleasing tendencies, etc.

It doesn’t matter where it comes from. Because in the moment, we have the option to listen to the thought and take action from it OR to acknowledge and say, “No thank you, I don’t care to have that right now” and take action from our greater, future desire/goal – a new thought.

We say no thank you to cake and we talk and teach ourselves that in this moment we will choose no cake in order to reach our greater goal of fueling our body with healthier food.

We also say no thank you to thoughts and then talk and teach our brain what we want it to practice thinking and believing instead for the greater goal of getting the result we want later… an organized home and life.

Why wasn’t there a brain class in high school to teach us these things?

Well, it’s here now.

Organized Thoughts

I’ve compiled a list of some thoughts you can start thinking. Saying no thank you to your old, programmed thoughts and yes please to these new, healthier thoughts.

Every time your brain offers you an old thought that has kept you stuck in clutter and confusion say no thank you and recite your new thoughts.

It’s like taking a puppy to the door, ringing the bell with its nose and taking it out to the grassy back yard to potty…over and over until it learns. Same with our brain. It’s like our cute little puppy waiting to be trained for the good of our whole life.

You are the perfect person to get organized.
